Join Vincci from VincciYoga and learn the most important aspect of yoga and reduce stress and increase feelings of joy.

Join Vincci to learn all about Yogic breathing, also known as pranayama, a foundational practice in yoga that involves conscious control of the breath to enhance physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.

Vincci has practiced yoga for many years and is passionate to teach people about one of the most important aspects of yoga, the breath which is equally as important as the movements in yoga. Yogic breathing or Pranayama comes from Sanskrit and means : prana (life force) and ayama (extension or control).

It’s not just deep breathing—it’s a structured technique to regulate the flow of energy in the body and can be practiced either on its own or alongside yoga postures and meditation.
By slowing and deepening the breath, yogic breathing helps regulate the nervous system and reduce cortisol levels- the hormone we build up in our bodies when we experience stress and anxiety which prevent the body from returning back to what it was like before we became stress. Yogic breathing also helps us ‘stay in the moment’ and focus on that which also stops us from encountering troubling and stressful thoughts.

Due to this yogic breathing reduces anxiety and stress as activates the parasympathetic nervous system- our relaxation response we should trigger after we get stressed or anxious. It is also known to Improve focus and mental clarity, boost lung capacity and oxygenation. Likewise, it balances emotions and enhances mood and is known to promote digestion and circulation.

During this session, Vincci will teach you the following techniques:

Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing)- renowned for balancing energy channels and calms the mind.

Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath)- to energize and detoxifying your body.

Bhramari (Bee Breath): A soothing and grounding breathing style.

Please note that this session will be seated in a chair but you may bring a yoga mat if you wish to practice these excercises seated in a yoga pose. Do wear comfortable clothes to ensure you are as comfortable as possible.

Accessibility

Please note that there are some stairs to access this room, which are situated near the front entrance of the building. Although we will leave chairs at the bottom and the top of the stairs, this session may not be suitable for adults with mobility challenges due to building constraints.

This session is running to support community wellbeing and also to raise funds for the Sherwood Exchange—a local food hub that shares surplus groceries and reduces waste. After attending, you're welcome to collect a bag of food that might otherwise go to landfill Learn more at thesherwoodexchange.co.uk or find us on Facebook.
