*** New date: Sunday 25th January 2026 10am-12pm ***
Winter is an exciting time to get out into local nature as many birds migrate here for the colder months. Lough Head Park in Co. Fermanagh is home to a rich variety of birds that use the woodland and wetland habitats as a winter refuge. We'll spend the morning watching, listening to, and enjoying our wonderful winter birds together in a friendly group and learn identification tips from each other. Join us to learn about our winter birds and meet more people in the Northern Ireland nature community.
This event welcomes both those new to nature and experienced birdwatchers. It's aimed at those looking to develop their skills in bird identification and surveying, and those new to birdwatching who are looking to give it a go.
We're keen to facilitate knowledge sharing in the group and introduce new people to the wonderful world of birds - so join us to learn about our winter birds and meet more people in the NI nature community!
Young people are most welcome, we ask that under-18s are accompanied by an adult.
If you have any questions about the event, please get in touch with us at northern.ireland@bto.org.
We will walk slowly for approximately 1 mile, stopping often to enjoy the birds.
Bring lots of layers and waterproofs, and wear sturdy footwear. We'll be outside for the full two hours, and as birdwatching involves a lot of staying still to enjoy the birds, it can feel colder than expected!
We have binoculars for people to borrow, so don't worry if you don't have your own!
The paths are not tarmacked, but are a mix of gravel, grass, and boardwalk, and the paths are of two-person width. Please get in touch with us at northern.ireland@bto.org if you want to discuss anything about accessibility for this event.
This event will take place at Lough Head Park, in Lisnaskea, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 0GW.
Lough Head Park is on the right hand side off the Lisnaskea Road (B127), when heading towards Derrylin from Lisnaskea town centre. We'll be meeting in the gravel car park at the Emmett Park GAA grounds, which is the first carpark on the right hand side of the access lane.
This event is free, but places are limited, so make sure you book your place using the 'Register your place' button.
