
In the stunning surroundings of Bradfield Woods, discover how to identify trees and shrubs in winter by studying their twig structure, buds and location among other indicators.
There will be an indoor session where, following a presentation, you will have the opportunity to identify specimens using different books and keys and discover how different resources can help you. After lunch there will be a guided walk through this ancient woodland learning how to put your ID skills into practice.
Andrew Holtham is a tree enthusiast and the author of a Winter Guide to the Common Trees of Hertfordshire. Copies of Andrew's book will be available to purchase for cash on the day.
You will need:
a packed lunch
a mug
a tree guide, if you have one
hand lens if you have one
stout footwear
weather-appropriate clothing
notepad and pen
a camera and binoculars are also recommended
