WHO IS ISRAEL?

When you hear about the geopolitical events of today around Israel and the Jewish people, how connected is all of that to the stories from the Old Testament of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and continuing on to Jesus? Are the promises made to Israel in the Bible still coming for the Jewish people? Is the Church the new Israel? How should Christians think about what's happening on the world stage?
