Visible Mending with Fussy Cut Reverse Appliqué

Have worn jeans, torn leggings, or an elbow hole you don’t want to hide? In this hands-on workshop, you’ll transform damaged clothing into a charming design feature using reverse appliqué. By cutting a window into the worn area and revealing a carefully chosen fabric underneath, you’ll turn everyday mends into whimsical, visible details.

Participants will learn:

• The basics of patching and reinforcing garments
• Beginner-friendly hand sewing techniques
• Simple embroidery stitches to secure and decorate mends

This class is beginner friendly, though some familiarity with hand sewing is helpful.

What to bring:

• One garment with a hole or worn spot you’d like to mend
• Suitable fabrics include jersey knits (t-shirts, sweatshirts) and wovens (denim, lightweight oxford shirts)
• Please avoid sweaters, as they require a different mending method

Materials provided:

• Needles
• Fabric scraps
• Thread
• Thimbles

Instuctions available in English & Spanish.

Enjoy complimentary snacks and refreshments while you work! Students are also welcome to bring their own food and beverages.
