UK Cyprus Film Festival 2026 – London Edition (Part I)
Women, Memory, and Unspoken Histories
Sunday 26 April 2026 | Cyprus House, London
The second day of the London edition of the UK Cyprus Film Festival 2026 brings together four films by Cypriot women filmmakers, exploring memory, silence, gender, and the inner landscapes shaped by history and lived experience.
Through short and feature-length works, the programme moves from intimate personal stories to broader social and emotional terrains, giving space to voices often left unheard. All screenings will be accompanied by in-person Q&A discussions with the filmmakers.
16:00 – Eleni’s Olives (19’)
Directed by Gianna Americanou
A quiet, observational short film centred on everyday gestures and inherited memory, Eleni’s Olives reflects on labour, care and continuity. Through the rhythm of rural life, the film captures how personal and collective histories are embedded in simple acts passed down through generations.
16:20 – Her Violet Garden (18’)
Directed by Irena Joannides
In this lyrical and deeply intimate short film, Her Violet Garden explores interior worlds shaped by memory, absence and emotional restraint. Through poetic imagery and restrained narration, the film evokes a space where what remains unspoken carries as much weight as what is revealed.
16:45 – Unwitnessed Memories (60’)
Directed by Athena Xenidou
Unwitnessed Memories gives voice to stories that were never recorded, seen or acknowledged. Moving between personal testimony and collective experience, the film examines how memory survives in fragments, silences and inherited trauma, particularly in relation to Cyprus’s recent history.
Followed by a Q&A with Director Athena Xenidou.
18:15 – Pause (96’)
Directed by Tonia Mishiali
A powerful and restrained feature film, Pause focuses on a woman navigating the invisible pressures of domestic life and emotional isolation. Through minimal dialogue and precise observation, the film reveals the slow accumulation of silence, frustration and desire for escape within everyday routines.
Followed by a Q&A with Director Tonia Mishiali.
