Actors will perform extracts from speeches made from the dock by Russian oppositionists who have been tried for sabotage for actions taken against the Russo-Ukrainian war.
These readings will be followed by a discussion with Simon Pirani, translator and editor of "Voices Against Putin's War", in which these speeches and others are collected. Simon will be in conversation with academics and activists working on the Russian-Ukrainian war.
The purpose of this event is to highlight the imprisonment of oppositionists in Russia today, to set this in the context of previous protests against war in a variety of countries and regions, and to investigate the significance of the cases highlighted for the possibilities of oppositional politics in Russia more generally.
