Take in the sights, scents and sounds of the forest: awakening our senses, letting nature refresh us and bring clarity to our mind.

WHAT?

Overview
This course trains participants to confidently plan and facilitate Therapeutic Nature Walks that promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Participants will learn the principles of nature-based therapy, safe group leadership, and mindful engagement with natural environments. Through experiential learning, guided practice, and reflection, the course equips participants with practical tools to design and facilitate nature walks, support participants’ emotional regulation, and create meaningful, restorative experiences in nature.


Objective

To train participants to lead Therapeutic Nature Walks.


Pre-requisite

Participants must have attended an 8-week mindfulness course (MBSR/MBCT/MCC) with Brahm Centre.


Topics

- Understanding the components and health benefits of nature walks

- Applying mindfulness in the nature walk

- Techniques in leading


Learning Outcome

Able to lead therapeutic nature walks.


To note:

· Things to bring: hat, water bottle, jacket (training room might be cold)

· Plant-based lunch will be provided.

· Meet at Botanic Garden MRT station Exit A – Street level at 8.30 am

$100 per person

$20 for seniors eligible for National Silver Academy (NSA) subsidy

Trainers:

May Chng & Stephen Yeo

May Chng was a former school vice-principal and a Ministry of Education educator for over 20 years. She is currently Brahm Centre’s Mindfulness Practice Senior Manager. May has experienced the benefits of mindfulness first-hand in her healing from a family tragedy, which fuels her commitment to sharing mindfulness knowledge, practices and attitudes with participants.

May is a Dot-b certified teacher from the Mindfulness in Schools Project (UK) and a trained Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Life teacher by Oxford Mindfulness Foundation. She has a Master of Arts (Instructional Design and Technology) and also holds a Diploma in Counselling Psychology.


Volunteer Trainer Bio:

Stephen is a trained and certified guide at the Botanic Gardens’ rainforest. He practices mindfulness each morning in nature parks, where the oxygen-rich air and abundance of negative ions support mental well-being, reduce stress, and promote deep relaxation of the mind.

With extensive knowledge of trees, plants, and the surrounding ecosystem, Stephen skillfully draws on the natural environment to foster calmness and inspire creative thinking. By tuning our senses to nature, participants can experience appreciable restorative benefits.
