This training explores using games and play to build regulation, engagement, and nervous system skills.

The Regulation Arcade: Game-Based Sand and Play Therapy is a trauma-informed training that explores how games, playful challenges, and structured play can support nervous system regulation, emotional awareness, and engagement. Drawing from play therapy, sand tray, and regulation-based frameworks, this training demonstrates how game mechanics—turn-taking, levels, choice, and feedback—create predictable, motivating containers for healing. Participants will learn how to adapt board games, sand tray scenes, and playful activities to support regulation, co-regulation, and skill-building with children, adolescents, and adults.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify how game-based play and sand tray interventions support emotional regulation and therapeutic engagement.
  2. Demonstrate at least three game-based or sand tray interventions designed to build regulation skills.
  3. Apply developmentally appropriate, play-based regulation strategies with children and adolescents.
  4. Explain the relationship between play, predictability, and nervous system regulation.
  5. Utilize game-based and experiential interventions to support emotional regulation and coping skills.
