Day 1, Saturday – Acoustic Guitar Day

Acoustic Guitar Day runs from 10am–4pm, followed by a 4–5pm showcase.

On Acoustic Day, the group will be divided into two smaller circles that switch teachers during the session so everyone works with both Ray and Brendon.

Brendon’s Acoustic Session – Being Heard in the Mix

Brendon will focus on practical, real-world acoustic skills:

  • How to set up an acoustic to sit clearly in a mix (live or studio)
  • Simple EQ and touch concepts so you’re present without overpowering
  • How to play tasteful acoustic leads that serve the song
  • Adapting what you play based on what you’re hearing and feeling in the moment

Ray’s Acoustic Session – Expression & Support

Ray will lean into expression and musical support:

  • How to support a lead player on acoustic through rhythm, voicings, and dynamics
  • Using time, space, and feel to make the music breathe
  • Adding color and emotion without stepping on the song
  • Letting questions and ideas shape where the session goes

What to Bring – Acoustic Day

  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own acoustic guitar.
  • Your instrument may be brought into the mix occasionally, but participation does not require playing.

Day 2, Sunday – Electric Guitar and Drum & Bass Clinic

Separate sessions offer focused instruction for each instrument. The morning features an intensive drum clinic, followed by an afternoon bass guitar session, while electric guitarists participate in a full-day workshop centered on tone, technique, and performance.

Electric Day follows the same idea: the group will be split and rotate so everyone spends time with both Ray and Brendon.

Brendon’s Electric Session – Tone, Amps & Practical Setup

Brendon will cover:

  • Amp settings for clean, edge-of-breakup, and lead tones
  • How gain, EQ, presence, and volume change what you hear
  • Building a reliable core tone
  • How touch, picking, and volume interact with your rig

Ray’s Electric Session – Expression & Beyond the Pentatonic

  • Pulling more expression out of familiar notes
  • Notes and colors just outside the pentatonic scale
  • Exploring Lydian, Mixolydian, and related flavors
  • Letting group questions guide depth

What to Bring – Electric Day

  • Participants are encouraged to bring their electric guitar.
  • Instruments may be used in demos, but listening alone is equally valuable.

Drum & Bass Day – Rhythm Section Clinic

Led by Justin and Jason, Drum & Bass Day focuses on how the rhythm section builds feel and momentum.

Setup

  • One drum kit will be set on stage
  • One bass amp provided
  • Participants should bring sticks and their own bass guitar

The clinic will rotate players through hands-on moments:

  • Locking in groove and pocket
  • How drums and bass support the band
  • Communication that changes the whole feel
  • Letting group questions guide the room

Across All Three Days

The goal is simple:

You don’t just leave with new ideas — you leave with a deeper feel for the music, a better ear, and more confidence in how you play.

The days conclude with a 4–5pm showcase bringing all groups together.

Cost (Includes Lunch)

  • Acoustic Guitar Day – $195 member / $245 non-member
  • Electric Guitar Clinic – $195 member / $245 non-member
  • Acoustic + Electric (both days) – $345 member / $395 non-member
  • Drum & Bass Clinic – $195 member / $245 non-member

Whether you play for passion or performance, The Groove Summit is where musicians come to learn, groove, and shine.
