Step into Newport’s living Blue Line- "A Coastal Field Trip with Snacks” — the flow of ocean water, seafood, knowledge, and culture that sustains our coast. On February 7, explore behind-the-scenes spaces, meet scientists and fishers, taste ocean-inspired foods, and experience how seawater, research, and community all connect.
This is a self-guided, choose-your-route adventure across the following venues:

Port of Newport & Pacific Maritime Heritage Center
Yaquina Lab & Central Coast Food Web.

What You’ll Experience
- Science in Action: Meet researchers, educators, and aquarists who work daily with seawater systems and marine life.
- Working Waterfront: Talk with fishers and harbor partners through our Dock Walks and Dockside Dialogues. Maybe see crab unloading from the boats to the dock!
- Blue Foods: Watch an expert fillet a fish from nose to tail, taste seafood samples and Blue Pantry creations, sip Local Ocean Seafoods new Fish Bone Broths and learn about local sourcing while explore CCFW’s food hub.
- Seawater Journeys: Discover how seawater moves through research labs, hatcheries, and food systems along Newport’s coast. Tour the Yaquina Lab’s OoNee Sea Urchin Ranch and Seaweed Farm.
- Connection & Community: Drive the route at your own pace — each stop offers something unique. Carpooling encouraged!
