A self-paced community adventure through Newport’s ocean science, food, and working waterfront—part of Winter Waters Weekend.

Step into Newport’s living Blue Line- "A Coastal Field Trip with Snacks” — the flow of ocean water, seafood, knowledge, and culture that sustains our coast. On February 7, explore behind-the-scenes spaces, meet scientists and fishers, taste ocean-inspired foods, and experience how seawater, research, and community all connect.

This is a self-guided, choose-your-route adventure across the following venues:

Hatfield Marine Science Center

Oregon Coast Aquarium

Port of Newport & Pacific Maritime Heritage Center

Yaquina Lab & Central Coast Food Web.

Closer to the time of the event more details including a map and detailed description of each stop on the trip will be emailed to the ticket holder.

What You’ll Experience

  • Science in Action: Meet researchers, educators, and aquarists who work daily with seawater systems and marine life.
  • Working Waterfront: Talk with fishers and harbor partners through our Dock Walks and Dockside Dialogues. Maybe see crab unloading from the boats to the dock!
  • Blue Foods: Watch an expert fillet a fish from nose to tail, taste seafood samples and Blue Pantry creations, sip Local Ocean Seafoods new Fish Bone Broths and learn about local sourcing while explore CCFW’s food hub.
  • Seawater Journeys: Discover how seawater moves through research labs, hatcheries, and food systems along Newport’s coast. Tour the Yaquina Lab’s OoNee Sea Urchin Ranch and Seaweed Farm.
  • Connection & Community: Drive the route at your own pace — each stop offers something unique. Carpooling encouraged!
