The Art of Giving - THE T!NY iSSUE x GE @ Simmos
Welcome to The Art of Giving, a creative collaboration between THE T!NY iSSUE, Give Endlessly, and Simmos Coffee in Hackney Wick. This charity event marks the opening night of a two-week exhibition (until 18 Nov) curated by Faithe Yang, celebrating food, culture, and the many ways art connects us.
As cities are shaped by migration, the dining table is often the first public space to arrive here. Around Simmos Coffee in Hackney Wick, market calls, multilingual menus, and the substitution of hard-to-find ingredients from home with London equivalents trace successive migrant cultures. Through foodways as a curatorial lens, the exhibition traces migration’s impact on sourcing, substitution, seating, custom, memory and the retelling of habits. We reframe recipes and utensils as archival artefacts
This project adopts hospitality as an exhibiting language. It supports small-format, wall-based works, in keeping with the viewing rhythm of the space. During the exhibition, a community recipe collection will be assembled. With consent, contributed recipes will be shared with the wider Simmos community, which allows migrant stories to continue in and beyond the space.
The exhibition features works by Caroline Wong, E Xuan, Flora Lu, Shou-An Chiang, Yung-Hsuan Wang, and yt(Tong Yin), artists from across East Asia exploring identity and belonging through photography, painting, installation, and watercolour. Each piece captures personal memories and shared moments, told through the universal language of food and creativity.
