Stepping into the Bible

\n

Tues 10th – Fri 13th February 2026

\n

Led by Peter Sills

\n

The Bible can be a bit of a closed book. There are some wonderful bits, like the story of Jesus, but what about the rest? Stepping Into The Bible opens it up. It offers an opportunity to get under the skin of the Bible, to understand its world, and to ask the questions that bother us. Together we make a journey exploring when and how the different Books were written, how the the Old and New Testaments relate to one another, and the way the Biblical message develops over the many centuries of its writing. We explore the different levels of biblical truth – from the literal to the poetic – and what they mean for us today.

\n

The retreat offers, in a prayerful context, tools for deeper understanding and imaginative engagement with the scriptures. Stepping into the Bible we discover it is not ‘a sacred monolith’, but a dynamic testament to a developing faith.

\n

The retreat is led by Canon Dr Peter Sills, and is based on his book, Six Steps Into The Bible : www.peter-sills.co.uk/courses. Peter is an experienced teacher, spiritual guide and pilgrimage leader. Formerly Vice-Dean of Ely, now retired, he assists in the Beacon Parish of Ditchling, Streat & Westmeston.
