Join us for a vibrant celebration of AfroLatin culture through music, dance, and community at SONGS OF THE DIASPORA!

Songs of the Diaspora is a multi-disciplinary performance experience and cultural gathering featured at The HistoryMiami Museum, that explores AfroLatinidad through sound, movement, memory, and story. Rooted in the idea of a global and borderless Black Caribbean, the work traces the living rhythms, migrations, and exchanges that shape Black diasporic life across the Americas and beyond.

Headlined by Afro-Latina operatic soprano and scholar, Dr. Zuly Inirio, alongside talented instrumentalists and artists from across the Diaspora. At its core, the performance positions the Caribbean not as a fixed place, but as a resonant field—carried through music, language, ritual, and embodied wisdom that can be engaged to catalyze healing and connection across South Florida. Drawing from African, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Latin traditions, the work weaves together historical lineage and contemporary expression, honoring both ancestral memory and present-day innovation. Rather than a singular narrative, the work embraces multiplicity—inviting community and participants to contribute workshop style to the many rhythms, and temporalities in coexistence.
