Two exciting and evocative tone poems by American composers open our concert - "Journeys" by Linda Robbins Coleman is from the 1990s, and "Nevada" composed by Ulric Cole in 1947.
We'll feature Dmitri Shostakovich's powerful Fifth symphony, probably his most popular, composed in the shadow of Stalin's grip on the USSR. It's filled with orchestral character, featuring haunting melodies, excursions into gleeful sarcasm, contained within Shostakovich's craft as a soulful musician and symphonist.
With free parking for concert-goers and a convenient Sunday afternoon concert time, the Lansdowne Symphony Orchestra is a great way to experience outstanding performances in the DelCo and Philadelphia region!
