SCGA & University of Stirling public roundtable on global peace & security: Ukraine, nuclear risks, diplomacy. Q&A + drinks. 24 Feb, 6pm.

The Scottish Council on Global Affairs and the University of Stirling are delighted to host a roundtable discussion on the state of global peace and security at 6pm on February 24th at the University of Stirling. As Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine enters its fifth year, the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas passes 100 days, and as international relations seem increasingly tense, unpredictable and unstable, this roundtable brings together several of Scotland’s leading experts on global peace and security.

The roundtable will take a broad look at the state of global peace and security, focusing on current challenges related to issues such as nuclear weapons and multilateral diplomacy, great power politics and Russian and Chinese foreign policy, conflict resolution and local peace processes as well as women, peace and security, alongside violent extremism, counter-terrorism, and peacebuilding.

Speakers will discuss the relevance of these issues for Scotland and explore how Scotland and the rest of the world can, and should, respond. The panel is comprised of four leading Scotland-based experts:

Noor al-Naser (The manager of Scottish Peace Platform at Beyond Borders Scotland)

Dr Megan Dee (Senior Lecturer in International Politics at the University of Stirling)

Dr Marcin Kaczmarski (Senior Lecturer in Security Studies at the University of Glasgow)

Laura Wise (Senior Research Fellow and Programme Coordinator with the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform - PeaceRep - at the University of Edinburgh)

The event will be chaired by Professor Neville Wylie (Deputy Principal of Internationalisation, and Professor of International History at the University of Stirling).

The roundtable is open to the public, and we welcome students and the local community to attend. It will feature a question and answer session, and will be followed by a drinks reception.

Accommodation is available at the Stirling Court Hotel at a rate of £75BB.
