Location: Stonewall National Museum, Archives, & Library 1300 East Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304.

The exhibition celebrates Sahara; a trailblazing lesbian bar opened in 1976 on Manhattan’s Upper East Side by Leslie Cohen and others. More than a nightlife spot, Sahara was a cultural and political hub for queer women—hosting performances, fundraisers, and feminist art. Expect archival photos, flyers, oral histories, and clips from a companion documentary, plus panels. SNMAL is working with former patrons, historians, and NYC LGBTQ+ institutions to bring this legacy to life. Ends April 5th, 2026.
