Carlos Henriquez will discuss navigating NY harbor, including traffic patterns, Rules of the Road, and practical seamanship techniques.

Join the Raritan Yacht Club for an essential safety seminar led by Carlos Henriquez, the 2025 Manhattan Yacht Club Fleet Captain. This presentation is designed to provide mariners with the "local knowledge" necessary to handle one of the busiest marine corridors on the U.S. East Coast.

Navigating the New York Harbor requires more than just basic skills; it demands an understanding of complex traffic patterns, heavy commercial operations, and powerful tidal currents. Whether you are a seasoned racer or a recreational cruiser, this session will provide practical techniques to keep you and your crew safer on the water.

Attendees will gain insights into:

  • Safe Maneuvering: Understanding how the flood and ebb tides impact your vessel at critical points like the Battery and Buttermilk Channel.
  • Rules & Communication: Reviewing the foundation of safe navigation, from proper lookouts to correct sound signals.
  • AIS Mastery: Moving beyond basic tracking to using AIS as a digital window for early decision-making.

Safety on the water is a shared responsibility. This session is a fantastic opportunity to brush up on your skills before the 2026 season officially kicks off.

The RYC Bar & Galley will open at 6:00 PM for attendees who wish to enjoy dinner before the talk. The presentation will run from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Don’t miss this chance to gain valuable "local knowledge" for your next trip through the Narrows or up the Hudson.
