We are thrilled to welcome you to Resurgence, a multidisciplinary evening programme celebrating the UK premiere of Resurgence of Lubugo , a new documentary film exploring the work of Ugandan designer Katende Godfrey and his inspiring practice designing sustainable Afro-futuristic garments through his Ugandan based fashion house IGC.
Produced in collaboration with IGC, Resurgence of Lubugo traces Katende’s journey of reclaiming Lubugo (a traditional Ugandan barkcloth) and fusing it with up-cycled materials, hip-hop culture, and radical approaches to sustainable design. This portrait style documentary is a call to reimagine the future of fashion through ecological care, collaboration, and community.
The film will be presented alongside an exhibition of Katende’s barkcloth garments, and feature a site-specific movement performance by Seyi Adelekun offering a live, embodied response to the film’s themes of ecology, ancestral knowledge and transformation. The programme also includes a conversation and Q&A with Katende and the film director Hannah Allchurch.
