This discussion will offer real world stories, problems and solutions around operations, marketing, sponsorship, and logistics so you can curate a high quality, well-attended event.

Our panelists include:

• Joanna Briley, founder of the Black Women in Comedy LAFF FEST and producer of Joke Sistas
• Anthony Oakes, producer of Seven Black Minutes and creator of Law & Order Comedy
• Joey Friedman, creator of Sense of Tumor: Cancer Comedy Fundraiser

This panel will be facilitated by Kim Levone, founder of Improbable Comedy and producer of SPRUNG! Comedy Festival.

This class is offered as part of SPRUNG! Comedy Festival, Silver Spring's very own comedy festival. Over four nights in March 2026, Improbable Comedy will present 10 unique shows of hilarious comedy at the Silver Spring Black Box Theatre, along with comedy classes and events.

About Improbable Comedy: Founded in 2012 by social-worker-turned-comedy-producer Kim Levone, Improbable Comedy has hosted hundreds of shows in local venues around the DMV. The goal has been to transform the industry by giving the mic to hilarious comedians who have been underrepresented on stage. Since our first show at Vicino's restaurant, we have brought big laughs to theatres, bars, swanky clubs, and people's homes. We now have regular shows at Busboys & Poets and the Arts Barn as well as partnerships with the Montgomery Parks Department and at the Silver Spring Black Box Theatre. SPRUNG! Parking: The Black Box is a short walk from the Silver Spring metro and there is parking in the area garages on Ellsworth and Cameron St.
