Curriculum-linked day for home educated children: Explore and investigate a woodland stream, then complete our fun orienteering challenge!

Practical Geography day for home educated children, led by experienced outdoor practitioners.

This tailored day supports the Key Stage 2 Curriculum and is suitable for ages 7 - 12.

The best way to learn is through hands-on experiences. Bring the curriculum to life and develop practical life skills with our Streams and Orienteering activties:

  • Explore a stream system as you learn about the features and processes of rivers and streams.
  • Carry out scientific investigations; bringing together geography, maths and science.
  • Create a field sketch and cross-section diagram.
  • Learn how to use a map and compass to navigate.
  • Follow our fun orienteering trail to test your skills (in Epping Forest).

Learning Objectives

  • Understand processes and terminology relating to rivers and streams.
  • Undertake practical field work: measuring the profile and speed of a stream meander.
  • Develop evaluation skills by assessing methods.
  • Build understanding of the water cycle and the impacts of human land use and climate change.
  • Learn how to use a map and compass effectively to navigate.
  • Develop problem solving and team working skills.
  • (Plus, exercise and fun in the great outdoors!)
