Open University Reading for Pleasure 2026 Secondary Conference

Most teenagers can read, but very few choose to do so in their own time.

This OU and UKLA RfP secondary Reading for Pleasure conference will explore how we can overcome the roadblocks that distance teens from texts and reignite their desire to read.

Professor Teresa Cremin will open the day with a keynote - exploring the roots of disengagement and pathways to reconnection. Workshops led by the OU KS3 RfP team will focus on choice and challenge, creating space for reading in busy curricula, the power of Reading Teachers and the significance of relevance and representation.

Author Lucy Strange, an ex-secondary teacher, will also join us, sharing stories that spark connections and Head of English Jessica Letts will recount her journey of RfP transformation at Walton High.

Staff from all departments are welcome to join us for a day of inspiration, insight and practice, enriched by the Norfolk Children’s Book Centre and UKLA book shops.
