At the start of a new year, we often rush to make plans, promises, and resolutions. This workshop invites you to slow that impulse down and focus instead on a single, guiding word.
In One Word for 2026, participants will choose one word that feels meaningful, necessary, or quietly insistent for the year ahead — a word like friendship, patience, finish, rest, or brave. This word becomes both anchor and material.
Using paper collage, we’ll explore how a word can be translated visually rather than literally. Through image, colour, texture, fragments of text, and composition, you’ll build an artwork that embodies the feeling of your chosen word.
This is a reflective but playful session. There’s no pressure to “explain” your word or make it inspirational for anyone else. The focus is on intuition, material exploration, and letting meaning emerge through making.
The workshop is suitable for all levels. You’ll be guided through:
You’ll leave with a finished piece that can act as a visual companion for the year ahead — something to return to, rather than a goal to complete.
We’re very grateful to be partnering with the Wheatsheaf, who are generously hosting us in their snug. Please support the pub by buying drinks or food during the evening — it helps keep community events like this possible!
