Northshore Concert Band's 70th season continues with the annual Lifetime of Music Initiative performance and Elgar's Enigma Variations.

Music becomes a lifelong bond in a program celebrating friendship, global traditions, and the joy of making music together. The concert opens with Reena Esmail’s Tuttarana — its title combining the Italian word tutti and the Hindustani musical form tarana — a thrilling fusion of Eastern-inspired rhythms and athletic ensemble interplay. Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations, written as a tribute to the composer’s closest friends, captures the spirit of connection through a series of vivid musical portraits, including the touching and timeless “Nimrod.” Nominated by their teachers, talented middle school musicians from across Chicagoland join the Band for its annual Lifetime of Music performance, featuring an international program that includes Chen Yi’s spirited musical tribute to Lunar New Year, Spring Festival; Christina Huss’ ethereal When an Angel Gets Its Wings; and La Fiera Asturiana, a bold Spanish march infused with flamenco flair.
