Join us for breakfast from 8:30am, followed by a relaxed and informal tour of Umi Ishihara’s exhibition Nocturnal Melody at 9:30am with Gasworks’ curator Rosa Tyhurst.
Drawing from the artists' own background as the daughter of parents working in nightclubs and the free-rave scene in Japan, Nocturnal Melody follows the lives of women in Tokyo working in strip clubs whose lives have been shaped by music, nightlife, and drug-taking. Through their stories, Umi explores the blurred boundaries between pleasure and vulnerability in spaces that awaken after dark.
The tour will take place in the gallery, temporary seating provided on request.
