Retrofit projects have so far mostly focused on single-owner freehold houses, as well as institutionally owned residential and commercial properties, while retrofitting privately owned homes within blocks of flats, converted period properties or multi-tenure housing pose significant additional challenges.
This in-person session will explore the realities of retrofitting flats owned under leasehold with a commercial freeholder, shared freehold or as commonhold, where homeowners need to align, with limited supporting legislative frameworks, with freeholders, managing agents, fellow leaseholders and residents, around scope, legal aspects, technical specs, design and risks, costs and financing, and delivery of building works.
In this event, we will explore the stakeholder landscape, highlight constraints, share experiences of flat owners and their architects at different stages of retrofit initiatives and create space for attendees to contribute their experiences, ambition and challenges, to collaboratively explore ways to address these barriers.
What to expect from this event?
An informal session where we consider the context specific to flats and present case studies to inform a panel discussion with an opportunity for Q & A .
Who is this event for?
No technical knowledge needed!
This event is part of a wider programme exploring retrofit of homes, energy upgrades, and low-carbon heating. Attendees will be the first to hear about upcoming sessions and opportunities. Retrofit Kentish Town is supported by the Camden Climate Fund, co-operative members and volunteers, who share experience and insight impartially and independently.
