Retrofit projects have so far mostly focused on single-owner freehold houses, as well as institutionally owned residential and commercial properties, while retrofitting privately owned homes within blocks of flats, converted period properties or multi-tenure housing pose significant additional challenges.
This in-person session will explore the realities of retrofitting flats owned under leasehold with a commercial freeholder, shared freehold or as commonhold, where homeowners need to align, without supporting legislative frameworks, with freeholders, managing agents, fellow leaseholders and residents, around scope, technical design and risks, costs and financing, and delivery of building works.
In this event, we will highlight constraints, share experiences of flat owners at different stages of retrofit initiatives and create space for attendees to contribute their experiences, ambition and challenges, to collaboratively explore ways to address barriers.
