Younger players between13 and 16 can explore the fantastical world of Dungeons and Dragons in a comfortable space with an experienced DM!

Dungeons and Dragons in Worcester

This event is for players aged between 13 and 16 only.

Fight monsters, completely quests, and solve fantastical mysteries with our fantastical Dungeons and Dragons games designed for younger players. We aim to provide a comfortable space where players of this age bracket can explore the game with an experienced Dungeon Master and discover the wonders of tabletop roleplaying.

If you've never played before, we'll teach you the basics and help you create your first character. Everyone is always welcome at our games and we aim to run a lighthearted, fun experiences that players will remember for a long time.

(Please note that while this event is free you will be responsible for covering your own table costs at the venue. This will be £7.50 per person attending. Thank you!)

Location

Our events are hosted at The Dice Box, which sits right in the heart of Worcester city centre. It's a fantastic space that serves food, drinks, and has enough room to play comfortably.

What you need to play

We provide everything you need to play the game. We have the books, character sheets, pens and paper, and even dice for you to borrow. Though, you are very welcome to bring your own if you have any of these.

Are Parents Welcome?

While parents are excluded from the game itself, they are welcome to stick around and take up a table in the cafe (thought there may be an additional cost depending on how busy the cafe is). We run the teens club downstairs in clear view of the cafe and the other patrons.

What to expect

At The Critical Hit Club, we run lighthearted adventures that are fun and full of fantasy. We like to have a laugh at the table and don't take ourselves too seriously. You can always expect a welcoming atmosphere, especially if you are new, because we want everyone to feel comfortable and have a great time at the table.

What is a One Shot?

This type of event is known as a one shot game, that means the adventure will only last for a single session. This is great for people who are looking to try D&D, or just want a commitment-free space to play where they can drop in and out of games while continuing to play the same character.

The Setting

Every year, for over a hundred years, the Realm of Wizardlocke has hosted a Tournament of Champions, and for over a hundred years, it has drawn the attention of every adventurer, hero, scoundrel, upstart, explorer, and treasure hunter from across the Further Kingdoms. They form adventuring parties, take on the realm's endless dangers, quest to their near final breath, and at the end of the summer season one of them wins the tournament and is propelled into legend and glory.

You are here to compete. Your reasons for doing so are completely your own. You might seek the fame the tournament brings. Maybe the wealth. Maybe even that single favour. In any case, the first thing you need to do is raise the money needed to buy entry into the tournament — one hundred and fifty pieces of gold. Fortunately, there are plenty of ways to make money in this realm, or, if you're lucky enough, you might find a wealthy enough person to sponsor your entry...

Creating your own Character

You are very welcome to create your own character before the game, although we do provide pregenerated characters for your use, and we can help you build your own character if you arrive early at the event. If you want to make your own character, just follow these guidlines:

  • You can use the 2024 Player's Handbook to create your characters (that's the book with the same cover as this event's cover).
  • Your character can start at level 3; though, if you are new to Dungeons and Dragons, we'd recommend starting at level 1.
  • To generate your scores, you can either use the Standard Array, or you can roll your scores randomly as long as you make your rolls in front of a moderator for The Critical Hit Club.
  • You are allowed to multiclass, as long as your meet the prerequisites.
  • You gain any starting equipment or gold from both your class and your background, and you can spend any gold you have on mundane items from the Player's Handbook outside of the game.

Final thoughts...

If you have any questions about building your characters or about the game or event in general, don't hestiate to send us a message! We will aim to answer your questions as quickly as possible.
