This event will explore the impact of recent U.S. actions in Latin America, placing current developments within broader historical, political, and legal frameworks of intervention in the region. Drawing on themes such as the Monroe Doctrine, security, drug policy, and international human rights law, the discussion will examine how longstanding narratives continue to shape contemporary U.S. engagement and its implications.
The panel brings together leading LJMU scholars and experts on Latin America, including Professor Julia Buxton, Dr Oliver Dodd, Dr Johanna Amaya-Panche, and Che Spencer. The session will be facilitated by Dr Matthew Hill and organised by the International Studies Working Group.
The event will combine short opening reflections with an extended, interactive Q&A, creating space for critical discussion, audience participation, and debate about the regional and global implications of these developments.
