We are delighted to welcome back Susie Wilson, Edinburgh-based printmaker and book artist to the Arthouse. In this one-day workshop, you will focus on how a Pop-Up book animates the page and brings it to life. Participants will discover the wonder of pages that become three-dimensional when opened. Participants will learn simple ways of cutting, folding and collage in order to create a unique pop up book.
Transforming the page into something that can move and become three dimensional is always magical bringing to mind miniature imaginative worlds. Participants will be introduced to simple pop-up mechanisms and ways of folding paper that can alter and animate the page. Participants will take home their own individual interpretations of different moving book structures.
No experience needed and most materials are supplied.
Susie’s work and philosophy is outlined in her own words:
‘My work examines the relationship between the hidden and the seen both metaphorically and physically. Exploring the book form enables me to combine print, paint and collage in a more sculptural way. The intimacy of holding the book, each page hiding then revealing the next, creates an atmosphere that is deeply personal. I am interested in this sense of revelation.’ You can see examples of her beautiful work on her website.
