🎙 Speaker – Udi Sommer is Associate Professor of Political Science at Tel Aviv University, Israel. He is currently a guest lecturer at UCSD.

This MCLE presentation will examine the structure of Israel’s judicial system and the proposed judicial reform, with a focus on judicial independence, checks and balances, and the role of the Israeli Supreme Court.

Topics will include:

  • Israel’s parliamentary system and constitutional framework
  • The powers of the Israeli Supreme Court, including judicial review
  • The judicial revolution of the 1990s
  • The key legal pillars and justifications of the proposed 2023 judicial reform
  • Popular will versus the rule of law in a comparative constitutional context
