This fast-paced Acrylic workshop is designed to keep you loose and infuse your work with energy!

Have you been wanting to go to the next level and paint looser and freer? To develop your own style? To have more fun while painting? To go bigger? To create paintings that reflect who you are and what you want to say? And so much more! Join me in this lively workshop where we will experiment with painting fearlessly and loosening the constraints that can prevent us from making exciting work.

In this dynamic three-hour course, we will warm up by painting loosely on a series of smaller paper surfaces approximately 12”x 12” using:

❖ Random colour combinations

❖ Line drawing

❖ Textures

❖ Movement

❖ Mark making

❖ Unexpected brushstrokes

❖ Finding hidden shapes

❖ Using larger brushes

❖ And focusing on discovering and appreciating the unexpected mark making that emerges.

We will then move onto a larger canvas and incorporate some of the loosening up techniques that we have warmed up with. You may want to do more than one larger painting. The size is up to you, but the challenge is to go bigger and looser and fresher.

Student Materials:

• 10 warmup paper surfaces - 12”x 12” minimum

• 1 or 2 Large canvases

• Acrylic paints - your 8 favourite colours plus black and white

• Large brush 3 or 4 inch

• Smaller brushes

• Water Container

• Charcoal

About Karen:

Karen Curry has had a lifelong passion for the art world. She grew up in an artistic family and has pursued a career in the arts for many years. Her first award at ten years old was for her painting of a Spanish dancer. She holds a B.A. Fine Art, B.Ed. and a Master of Education. She has been an exhibiting artist, art educator and interior designer and has travelled widely over the years - often crossing oceans in small sailboats with her family. Her studios are located in Vancouver, British Columbia and Palm Desert, California. She loves to teach and has taught in Canada, USA, Mexico, and Europe. Her most recent painting, teaching, and residential venue took place over three years in Vence, France at ‘Villa Le Reve’ at the former home and studio of Henri Matisse.

Karen paints a variety of subjects. What ties her work together is a passion for painting what moves her and the utilization of her own unique brand of color.
