ABOUT ASHANTI
Ashanti Farquhar – Textile Designer & Weaver
Ashanti Farquhar is a mixed-race Jamaican textile designer and weaver whose work explores identity, heritage, and belonging. She studied at the Royal College of Art (RCA), developing a distinctive practice that blends materials, colours, and patterns to reflect her multifaceted cultural background.
Adopted as a child, Ashanti’s work is deeply informed by her personal journey of navigating multiple cultural identities. Through her work, she investigates the concept of home, the search for self, and the beauty of holding many aspects of one’s identity in harmony.
Ashanti’s textiles are bright, rhythmic, and thoughtful, celebrating the coexistence of complexity, heritage, and personal narrative. She seeks to illuminate the experience of cultural hybridity, showing that multiple layers of identity can coexist beautifully within oneself.
About CasildART Contemporary CIC
CasildART is a not-for-profit, Black-led organisation committed to fostering a more inclusive and supportive creative culture. Founded to address the underrepresentation of Black artists in museums, commercial galleries, and fine art institutions, our mission is to raise awareness, amplify voices, and provide artists with the freedom to express their creativity fully.
At the heart of CasildART is connection — connecting artists with audiences, artworks with critical conversations, and ideas with experiences that challenge, inspire, and transform. Our programme includes exhibitions, artist events, and creative workshops, offering multiple ways to engage with contemporary Black art.
Workshops form an essential part of our mission, offering hands-on experiences that are both creative and therapeutic. From weaving to textile design, these workshops encourage mindfulness, skill development, and self-expression, while making art accessible to all. They are designed to empower participants, spark curiosity, and foster meaningful connections between artists and the community.
Our exhibitions highlight the diversity and richness of Black artistic practice, presenting thought-provoking works across media, themes, and generations. Artist events, including talks, panel discussions, and circle conversations, provide unique opportunities to hear directly from the creators, understand their processes, and explore the ideas behind the work
We invite you to join our growing community of artists, collectors, and art lovers to experience the best of contemporary Black art and participate in the conversations and practices that shape it. At CasildART, art is not only seen — it is felt, shared, and transformative.
