It is going to be intense, relentless, sweaty and fun.
Suitable for all fun-loving people, including first timers. Ceilidh isn't about perfection; it's about having fun trying. All ages and all abilities are welcome. We demonstrate, walk through and call dances to suit the crowd.
Come along in a group, come along with a partner, come along on your own: there are many opportunities for meeting and dancing with other people. That's part of ceilidh culture.
At half time we will acknowledge the Bard with a Recitals Competition and an Immortal Memory toast. The ticket price includes the offer of a dram to join the toast** (it doesn’t have to be whisky) and a cranachan-inspired dessert slice.
If you are in performing mood, brush up on your party piece and bring it along. If you want to be sure of the opportunity to compete, get in touch beforehand. There is a £100 prize for the best performance.
Licensed Bar. Doors open 7pm, dancing starts 7:30pm, ends 11pm.
Tickets are on sale at Eventbrite and at https://assemblyroxy.com/ These are separate ticket allocations. One source may sell out before the other.
At Laldie Ceilidhs our aim is to curate the best possible ceilidh dance events. We like high energy, we like dance variety, we work with the best bands and the best venues we know.
Sometimes we run a beginners' class before the ceilidh proper, but not this time. This ceilidh is starting a little earlier so we can give a nod to Robert Burns without eating into dancing time.
We believe that the best ceilidhs come about when there is a mix of beginners and experienced dancers. The contribution made by active repeat ceilidh-goers is recognised with a discount on a limited number of tickets. Returning customers are invited to contact us at laldieceilidhsedinburgh@gmail.com for the promo code and to share it with one another.
We often take photos and video at our events and we publish some images (including on social media and other websites) for general interest and for promotional purposes. If you object to being photographed please address this with us before you buy a ticket and before you attend.
**You will be asked to make your choice of a drink for the Immortal Memory at the door. To comply with Challenge 25 regulations, all ticket holders and their guests who are selecting an alcoholic drink option must provide a valid, government-issued photo ID upon request. Accepted forms of ID include a passport, driving licence, or any other official identification displaying a hologram.
