Much emphasis is placed on the role of academies in preparing students for their futures. However, evidence shows that students are still facing significant skills gaps when transitioning to the workplace, apprenticeships or university. Students experiencing disadvantage are at particular risk of unsuccessful transitions to universities and apprenticeship programmes.
