Japanese Paper Lantern Workshop (with Calligraphy)

Welcome the New Year with a moment of calm creation.

Have you ever imagined creating something that carries both light and hope—entirely with your own hands? Spend a peaceful afternoon immersed in hands-on craft, gentle focus, and soft illumination.

In this workshop, we return to the simplicity of natural materials: branches, flowers, paper, ink. From these quiet elements, you will shape a lantern that reflects your energy and aesthetic—whether minimal or ornate, balanced or bold, softly poetic or richly expressive.

What you will experience

Pei will guide you through each stage of the creation process:
• building the lantern structure from raw materials
• learning the fundamentals of Chinese calligraphy and traditional ink painting
• arranging natural pressed flowers to complete your unique design

This is a small-group session with individual guidance throughout. All tools and materials are provided. While you work, you’ll enjoy the serenity of a Georgian heritage venue, accompanied by unlimited tea and coffee and a slice of cake. By the end of the session, you will take home your completed Japanese-style paper lantern ready to bring warmth to your home.

Light photography and short video may be taken to capture the gentle mood of the session. Please note: while the building’s front entrance has three small steps, the workshop space itself is entirely on the ground floor and fully accessible.

This is not simply a craft class. It is a quiet space for reflection, expression, and rediscovery—an invitation to begin the new year with elegance and creativity.
