As the impacts of climate change become more severe, we must find ways to meaningfully involve the public in climate adaptation and resilience efforts.
This event will bring together academia, local government and community organisations to discuss effective and inclusive methods for deliberation on climate adaptation. Panellists will also explore some of the challenges of engaging communities, and how we might respond to this at a local and national level.
We will be launching our new report Hopeful Futures: Londoners’ visions for a city that is well adapted to climate change, which explores attitudes towards climate adaptation, building on deliberative workshops held with local residents. It will be published alongside a report setting out Lessons on involving the public in decisions around climate adaptation and a Technical report.
This event is part of the Hopeful Futures project, supported by King's College London in collaboration with London Councils and the London boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Tower Hamlets. The project invited a group of 27 Londoners to reimagine what a climate-adapted London could look like by 2050, and the steps we can take to get there.
