This workshop aims to give you the knowledge and confidence to take part in Citizen Science on your own or with a group.

This event is in partnership with Forth Environment Link (FEL) and contributes to their Climate Leadership Programme. Thank you to Scottish Canals for allowing us to use this venue.

Citizen Science is an excellent way to engage with the local environment and contribute vital data about nature. Volunteers worldwide collect information to understand, protect, and improve the environment.

In this workshop, we will explore citizen science and its applications. You will learn about projects you can participate in, how to effectively record and identify wildlife, and why local wildlife recording matters. You will gain the skills and confidence to participate in or organise your own citizen science activities.

To get the most out of this event it is suggested that you download the app iNaturalist and create a free account before attending.

What to bring with youNotebook, pen, smartphone, drink and snack (all optional)

What to wear - Please check the weather, we will be outside and in woodlands so please wear appropriate clothing and shoes

Where to meet - Parking available at The Farlkirk Wheel, we will be in the Blueprint Room which you can access via the main entrance

This event also contributes to FEL's Climate Leadership Programme, which invites participants to attend three themed sessions:

  • Practical Skills
  • Leadership Skills
  • Place-Based Learning & Inspiration

Take part in one session from each theme to earn your Climate Leadership Certificate and an invitation to join our 2025 Climate Leader networking events.

Once you’ve completed all three sessions, simply email your name and address to Climate@FELScotland.org to receive your certificate.
