This workshop aims to give you the knowledge and confidence to take part in Citizen Science on your own or with a group.

This event is in partnership with Community Woods and Gardens.

Citizen Science is an excellent way for people to engage with the local environment and make a difference by collecting and recording vital information about nature. Across the world, volunteers gather a wide range of data used to understand, protect and improve the environment.

In this workshop we will discuss Citizen Science and its use. You will develop an understanding of a range of simple and accessible Citizen Science projects. You will learn how to effectively record and identify wildlife, understand why local wildlife recording is so important and take away the skills and confidence to take part in or arrange Citizen Science activities of your own.

There will be a 90 minute relaxed presentation at the beginning, a break, and then we will head out into the woodlands to identify and record the biodiversity we come across using various methods.

To get the most out of this event it is suggested that you download the app iNaturalist and create a free account before attending.

This event is open to all ages but please consider if your child would be able to sit through a 90 minute presentation with activities and information. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

It is recommended that you bring a packed lunch and on the day hot drinks will be provided.
