
The programme features an EDI-themed student poster competition, talks from invited academic and industry speakers, and a showcase of PhD research from the School of Physical Sciences. Highlighting the School and Faculty's broader equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives, the event will bring together students, University colleagues and industry partners from the Liverpool City Region to promote inclusivity across research and practice.
Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professor Laura Harkness brings valuable academic perspective and experience in advancing inclusive practice within science and technology environments. Through her work as a Professor of Nuclear Physics, Faculty leadership, and as Chair of the University of Liverpool's EDI committee, Laura has supported collaboration between academia and industry while advocating for equitable opportunities and career progression in STEM.
As CEO of Merseyside-based credit union, ECU, Karen Bennett CBE is a nationally recognised advocate for financial inclusion. Awarded a CBE for her services to financial inclusion, Karen has dedicated her career to expanding access to fair, affordable financial services and supporting individuals and communities who are often excluded from mainstream banking. Her work focuses on tackling inequality, promoting financial wellbeing, and creating inclusive economic opportunities.
PhD students from each of the School's Departments will present their research and how it intersects with the theme of Inclusivity in Science, supporting women and girls, and EDI initiatives more generally.
Downstairs in the VG&M cafe, there will be an exhibition showcasing all of the entries in the School's EDI student poster competition. You will have the opportunity to vote fo your favourites, with your vote helping to decide the prize winners who will be announced as part of the event.
