What happens when financial acumen meets social impact?


Discover how strong financial leadership and compassionate understanding can transform lives. In this engaging session, you’ll hear from inspiring leaders tackling complex financial challenges while supporting people with sensory impairments to live independently.

At this event, you will:

  • Learn about the reality of working in a very challenging sector from a financial perspective.
  • Participate in a discussion around managing risks, risk appetite, maturity and the importance of financials in a world where understanding of financials and accounting practices can be limited.
  • Gain understading about how Wilberforce Trust works to help and support those who are visually or hearing impaired across all generations to live independently.
  • Understand some of the key challenges faced by those with sensory impairments and disabilities.

The session will include some practical and interactive elements to help participants to understand the actual impact of sensory impairment on day to day tasks and some of the key data points around sensory loss.

About the speakers:

Ellie Hudson has been the CEO at Wilberforce Trust in York since July 2024. She is also a NED, Chair of Governance and People Committee, and a member of the Audit and Risk Committee at Yorkshire Housing.

Prior to transitionng into the charity sector, Ellie worked in private sector for 30+ years - in banking, consultancy and payment processing, working at TSYS for 18 years across many governance and operations functions, finally ending her private sector career as SVP for Business Operations in 2021.

She is a strong advocate for continuous learning and the power of community.

Julie Day brings more than 20 years' experience as Vision Rehabilitation Specialist (VRS). She has worked on Local Authority sensory contracts across York and North Yorkshire.

Julie delivers Sensory Awareness training for all team members and Trustees at Wilberforce Trust, and has delivered the training across many organisations such as Nuffield and Spire Healthcare and Tier Mobility. Julie also supported Nimbuscare in ensuring the mass vaccine rollout for COVID address multiple aspects of accessibility.
