Join the It's Hardback Out Here community to discuss our January Book of the Month - 'Just Kids' by the icon that is Patti Smith!

Welcome back to the It's Hardback Out Here community!

It's 2026 and we're back - with a new book, and a new venue! Join us at The Ministry, Borough, on Monday 26th January as we discuss our latest BOTM, Just Kids by Patti Smith.

As it's the New Year, we will be discussing this book through the lense of our monthly theme - reinvention! Because January is the perfect time to reinvent ourselves totally in a way that will last the entire year... right..? RIGHT...?

Just Kids is a beautiful, lyrical and much-loved memoir by artist Patti Smith. We journey through her early adulthood and her relationship with the late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The book begins with Smith's arrival in New York City in the late 1960s, where she meets Robert, and they form an unbreakable bond, whilst navigating their determination, against all odds, to 'make it' as artists in the city.

Don't miss out on the chance to connect with fellow book lovers who are also navigating their 20s, and make some new friends for 2026 within our lovely community!

You can buy the book via our Bookshop.org affiliate link, here.

It's Hardback Out Here is the brainchild of three best friends - Emily, Josh and Hana - on a mission to make London a little less lonely for twenty-somethings. Hosting monthly book club discussions, Friendship Speed 'Dating' mixers, plus plenty of other girlypop events, It's Hardback Out Here is dedicated to bringing London's bookish besties together and talking about the tough stuff.

Trigger warnings: in this book, there are depictions of drug/alcohol use, terminal illness (AIDS), death, grief, sexual content, abortion, and poverty/hunger.
