We will explore how to create grounded characters in grounded scenes, and use them to play with a natural, unforced comic idea.

Overview

Do your scenes lose touch with reality as soon as you step off the back line? Do they spin off in too many wacky directions at once? Have you become a permanent resident of Crazy Town? \nIf so, this course is for you!\nOur priority in the first part of this course is to explore how to create grounded characters in grounded scenes. You’ll have the time and space to build interesting, engaging and genuine realities.

Then, in the later stages, you’ll explore how to identify and play with a natural, unforced comic idea. You’ll practice making these ideas shine against the grounded backdrops you create.\n

Your Teacher

Charlie Bailey

Charlie trained as an improviser at The Free Association and The Glasgow Improv Theatre and as an actor at Rose Bruford College.\nHe’s a regular cast member in Looking for Laughs and Squeaky Bum Time and he’s in an improv duo with Mark Deas.\nHis favourite thing about improv is when you do something funny by accident and you have to ask your team mates why the audience was laughing. Comedy happens when you least expect it!
