Hezekiah Jones Live On Stage at Vinyl Lab

Philly's own Hezekiah Jones will bring their lyrical depth, collaborative lineup, and the ability to shift between intimate folk ballads and full-band, roots-rock arrangements to the Vinyl Lab stage January 17th at 7:00 pm.

A Philadelphia folk treasure sparked to life in 2006, is the musical brainchild of Raphael Cutrufello, a songwriter whose tales weave whimsy, wit, and soulful depth. Once a revolving cast of Philly’s finest, the band has coalesced into a tight-knit crew thanks largely in part to their love of spending time together around various fires and pianos deep into the night. Cutrufello (Hezekiah Jones) strums guitar and sings with a voice like a well-worn journal; Brad Hinton (Pocono Jones) on guitar and lap steel & vocals; Philip D’Agostino (Pepe Jones) dances across guitar, keyboards, pocket piano, bass, and saw; Daniel S. Bower (Roy G. Biv Jones) plays drums; Kiley Ryan (Kiwi Jones) spins haunting violin melodies and ethereal vocal harmonies; and Alex Luquet (Peter L.V. Jones) holds down on bass. Occasional special guests, plucked from Philly’s vibrant scene, slip into the mix, adding sparks of spontaneity to their live sets.

Their sound…think Leonard Cohen poetic reverence crossed with Will Oldham’s raw, quirky heart. Intimate yet piercing, with lyrics that skip from playful absurdities to gut-punch truths. Their catalog, from the homespun Hezekiah Says You’re A-OK (2006) to the ghostly In Loving Memory of oosi Lockjaw (2015) and 2023’s EP with gems like “Having a Time Machine Isn’t a Good Enough Reason to Time Travel,” feels like a map to a world both strange and familiar. Once tied to Yer Bird Records and now roaming with woodfarm Records, Hezekiah Jones commands Philly’s folk scene, casting spells at venues like Johnny Brenda’s, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, and Ardmore Music Hall. Their shows are a warm embrace, pulling you into a swirl of foot-stomping anthems and introspective ballads that linger like a strange dream.
