Child protection training specifically designed for support workers and practitioners in school age childcare in Scotland.

This training session has been designed to equip support workers and practitioners in school age childcare with the knowledge and confidence to recognise, respond to, report, and record concerns or disclosures of child abuse, in accordance with the National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland.

Using examples and case studies relevant to school age childcare in Scotland, attendees will leave the session with the understanding and skills to:

  • Define child protection in the Scottish context
  • Identify different types of child abuse and neglect
  • Recognise potential signs and indicators of abuse and neglect
  • Confidently respond to, report and record concerns and disclosures

About the Trainer

Patrick is the Practice & Training Officer at SOSCN. He spent over 8 years as Designated Child Protection Officer whilst managing one of Scotland's largest school age childcare settings, and completed the NSPCC's Training for Trainers in Safeguarding and Child Protection in 2025.

Patrick also holds a Level 3 Award in Education and Training and is qualified to SCQF Level 9 in Playwork, and BA in Childhood Practice. He has over 14 years experience working in the school age childcare sector, working in a variety of positions from Playworker to Manager.
