To mark the Hannah Arendt anniversary in 2025, we invite you to read & discuss this graphic novel by Ken Krimstein. New members welcome!

The Goethe-Institut Glasgow Book Club invites you to read and discuss (in German) the graphic novel The Three Escapes of Hannah Arendt by Ken Krimstein. New members welcome!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hannah Arendt was one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century. Having experienced Nazi persecution firsthand, she fled across Europe and eventually settled in the United States, where she became a leading voice in political philosophy.

Ken Krimstein’s genre-defying graphic novel brings her extraordinary life vividly to the page. Illustrated with striking visuals, it follows her journey through exile, intellectual circles and personal contradictions – from Königsberg to New York, and from her complex relationship with Martin Heidegger to her enduring commitment to what she called “love of the world”.

It offers a compassionate and timely portrait of a complex woman whose ideas continue to shape how we think about politics, freedom and responsibility.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Ken Krimstein has published cartoons in the New Yorker, Punch, the Wall Street Journal, and more. He is the author of Kvetch as Kvetch Can, and teaches at De Paul University and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He lives in Evanston, Illinois.
