FREE WORKSHOP: LOVE FOOD, HATE WASTE

Join us for a fun, family-friendly workshop on reducing food waste that will teach you easy habits to make your food last longer - FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED!

As part of Haddenham Parish Council's pledge of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, we've teamed up with Green Futures by Foodrise to run a series of workshops helping residents become more eco-friendly and sustainable through reducing food waste. By discovering meals from leftover ingredients, learning how to store food properly, and uncovering other handy tricks, you are doing your part in cutting carbon emissions, saving valuable resources, and protecting the planet for future generations.

Within the workshop, you'll be taught about the damage caused to the environment from food waste, how to reduce the amount of food you throw away, and be given commonly thrown away ingredients before participating in a cooking practical on how to turn these ingredients into a tasty meal (which you get to eat at the end)!

Did you know?

  • Food waste is a major climate issue. When food is thrown away and sent to landfill, it breaks down and releases methane — a greenhouse gas over 25 times more powerful than CO₂.
  • Wasted food means wasted resources. Huge amounts of water, energy, land, and fuel are used to grow, process, package, and transport food — all of which are wasted if that food isn’t eaten.
  • If food waste were a country, it would be one of the world’s biggest polluters. Globally, food waste is responsible for around 8–10% of all greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Most food waste happens at home. In the UK, households throw away millions of tonnes of edible food every year, much of it because it wasn’t stored properly or leftovers weren’t used in time.
  • Reducing food waste is one of the easiest ways to cut your carbon footprint. Small changes like meal planning, using leftovers, and storing food correctly can make a real difference — without giving anything up.

Please note: this event is for children aged 7 years and older; maximum 4 tickets per family; tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis and you may be contacted after ordering tickets that we don't have sufficient space (we will aim to turn ticket sales off when reach capacity to reduce this, and if you miss out there will be future events).
