Join us for an afternoon of art, inspiration, and community connection as we explore portrait painting through the lens of poetic brilliance and cultural pride. This free, all-levels workshop invites participants to learn the fundamentals of portraiture while celebrating the spirit of Amanda Gorman, the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history and a beacon of hope, creativity, and social consciousness.
Amanda Gorman’s artistry reminds us that the face is not only a subject but a story—a landscape of resilience, imagination, and power. Her words and presence have inspired millions to see beauty in courage and to speak truth through art. This workshop invites you to translate that inspiration onto canvas.
Guided by celebrated fantasy artist Rob Carlos, participants will learn essential techniques in composition, lighting, and expression while embracing the emotion and symbolism that make a portrait come alive. Rob’s dynamic career—from illustrating The Wheel of Time trading cards to creating murals and digital sculptures—brings a world-building sensibility to every brushstroke, helping each participant bring their vision to life.
All materials will be provided. No prior experience is required—just bring your curiosity, openness, and creative spirit.
