THE HINSDALE HOUSE:
The house is commonly known as THE HINSDALE HOUSE is an old farmhouse on the wooded parcel outside of the village. It is widely reported to have been built around 1853. Ownership have been said in re-tellings that the Burton family bought it in 1861, the McMahon family (the road is named after them), and variety of later owners. The household that brought the place to wide attention was the DANDY FAMILY, who moved in around 1970 and left by 1974. Much of the haunting narrative originates in Clara Dandy's book Echoes of a Haunting.
DARE TO ENTER THE HINSDALE HOUSE:
On March 14th, FLUMERI PROMOTIONS invites you to face one of the most infamously haunted homes in America--The Hinsdale House in Hinsdale, NY! This isn't your average paranormal investigation. The walls of this 1850s farmhouse have witnessed exorcisms, apparitions, and unspeakable terror. Whispers echo through the woods....shadows move when no one is there....and those who have dared to stay the night swears the house watches back!
CLAIMS AND EXPERIENCES:
Apparitions/Visible figures:
Some have said to have seen a woman in old-fashioned dress, a litte girl's voice and figure, and other shadowy forms inside and outside the home.
Poltergeist/physical disturbance:
Reports include objects moving by themselves, doors slamming, picture frames tilting, and hearing knocks and voices.
Physical afflictions:
According to the Dandy family, family members (children especially) wake up with unexplained marks or burns and people experiencing sudden nausea,
Strange sounds:
People have reported to have heard distant choir-like or chanting sounds have been heard coming from the surrounding woods at night.
Unusual smells/insect swarms:
There have been reports of an overpowering perfume scent, sudden fly swarms in a room, and the oil/heat propane system behaving oddly.
THE CLERGY INVOLVEMENT:
Fr. Alphonsus Trabold of St. Bonaventure University is repeatedly cited as having been called to the house in the mid-1970s and conducting rites to cleanse the structure. St. Bonaventure's archival/biographical material lists the Hinsdale case among his noted paranormal involvements. He called the work a cleansing rather than a "possession" exorcism of a person.
