Join us at The Wertheim for an evening with FIU Piano Professor José López as he presents a program celebrating contemporary Cuban-American composers who have shaped today’s musical landscape. Featuring works by Aurelio de la Vega, Tania León, Orlando Jacinto García, Antonino Hernandez-Lizaso, and Ivette Herryman, the program spotlights artists who have each received the prestigious CINTAS Award in Music. The program also includes selected 19th-century composers, and the premiere of two short works by Gaspar Villate (1851-1891).

This special performance honors the centennial celebration of Aurelio de la Vega (1925–2022), one of the most influential voices in 20th- and 21st-century Cuban-American composition. Audiences will experience selections from across de la Vega’s varied stylistic periods, revealing the evolution of his creative language and his enduring impact on contemporary music.

Rich in history, artistic depth, and cultural significance, this concert offers a rare opportunity to hear a collection of works that reflect the diversity and innovation of Cuban-American composers.
